Welcome
It’s that time of the year when you can often find yourself at your wit’s end; the heat
goes up both outside and inside — school’s out and the kids are at home for their
extended summer break.
Speaking of children, I’m taking a little break of my own to experience the wonders
of children, with the birth of our first child. My diary is going to be full in the immediate
future; our Diary page offers some suggestions as to how you can keep the kids
entertained and out of your hair.
This, naturally, leads me to our Beauty section this month, where two young
volunteers allowed themselves to get a make-over at Dessange, using a revolutionary
hair product from L’Oreal. We’ve test-driven creams and gels from a local spa and a
skin care clinic, and there’s also the usual round-up of cosmetics and perfumes to
have recently hit the stores.
Soon to be on display will be the Autumn/Winter 2010 collections. A sneak preview is
offered up in Fashion Forward. Our Fashion pages take one last look at casual wear for
the summer and we hunt down some chic sunglasses to show off your style.
Our Interviews this month include Dr Hannan Marafie, whose celebrating the fifth
anniversary of her clinic at the end of August. Three women who have ventured into
what is often seen as a man’s world, relay their experiences in the People pages.
If you find yourself out in the sun a little too long and start to get that burning sensation,
then you’ll find 20 home-based remedies to soothe the pain in the Parenting section.
Dr Jinan Darwish explains, in her column this month, how to coax your child through
fasting during Ramadan. Catherine Kerr, meanwhile, examines some of the ‘diets’ that
Hollywood celebrities resort to in order to stay slim and look the part. For those getting
their exercise this month hunting down bargains in our shopping malls, there’s some tips
on how to avoid sore heels.
Finally, when we are at home, the handle-less kitchen feature in the Home pages
and a collection of green essentials from Philips should keep us inspired, and out wits
in check!
As always, happy reading and don’t forget, if you’ve an idea, a request or a story you
want to share, drop me a line at editor@womanthismonth.com.
